We are so looking forward to working with you throughout this year to make your child’s last year of elementary school a fun and successful one! Our fifth grade curriculum is based on district and state standards. These new standards emphasize thinking skills which we will integrate in all subjects. We have new science units this year which are Space Systems: Stars and the Solar System, Earth’s Surface Systems, Structures and Properties of Matter, and Matter and Energy in Organisms and Ecosystems. In social studies we will be exploring American history from the 1400s through the Revolutionary War. Reading and writing will focus primarily on expository pieces but will also include stories and poetry. For math, we continue to use the Everyday Math program and will cover everything from basic two digit division to fractions to negative numbers and beyond!
As teachers, our aim is to meet our students where they are and grow them throughout the year. We will do this through small guided reading and writing groups, Challenge Math, and other differentiation methods.
Together as a team, we can make this year the best it can possibly be! If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are looking forward to an amazing year!
